Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Wet Ingredients:
- 2/3 cup whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (melted)
Additional Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups finely chopped apples (peeled, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Apple Mixture: Fold in the chopped apples.
- Frying: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Drop heaping tablespoons of batter into the hot oil, frying 4–5 at a time. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, turning as needed, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Glaze: For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Dip each fritter bite into the glaze or drizzle over the top. Let set for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can use a small cookie scoop for evenly sized fritters.
- For a thicker glaze, use less milk; for a thinner drizzle, add a bit more.
- Best served warm but can be reheated in the oven.
