Description

Aunt Kathy’s Oven Burgers are juicy, flavorful burgers baked to perfection in the oven, offering an easy and mess-free alternative to grilling or stovetop cooking. Seasoned with garlic and onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, and simple spices, these burgers are topped with melted cheese and served on toasted buns with your favorite toppings for a classic homemade meal everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Burger Patties

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend works best)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cheese

  • 6 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, or your favorite)

Buns and Toppings

  • 6 hamburger buns
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Pickles
  • Sliced onion
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil to help with easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare the Burger Patties: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently just until combined to avoid overworking the meat. Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Bake the Burgers: Place the patties on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring there is space between each. Bake in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for well-done burgers.
  4. Add the Cheese: During the last 2 minutes of baking, place a slice of cheese on each patty to allow it to melt perfectly.
  5. Toast the Buns: While the burgers bake, split the buns and place them on a separate baking sheet. Toast them in the oven for 3–4 minutes or until golden and slightly crisp.
  6. Assemble the Burgers: Place each cheesy burger patty on a toasted bun base, add your desired toppings and sauces, then top with the other half of the bun. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Avoid overmixing the ground beef to keep the patties tender and juicy.
  • Try different cheese varieties like Swiss, pepper jack, or blue cheese crumbles for a gourmet twist.
  • You can shape patties ahead of time and refrigerate them until ready to bake.
  • Ground turkey or chicken can be used as an alternative to beef, but adjust cooking time accordingly.
  • Use an 80/20 beef blend for juicier burgers and prevent overcooking to maintain moisture.
  • Freeze patties by separating them with parchment paper and storing in airtight containers for up to 3 months.
  • Serve these burgers with crispy french fries, coleslaw, garden salad, baked potato wedges, or onion rings for a complete meal.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, or a fried egg for an upgraded burger experience.
