Ingredients
Scale
Pasta
- 12 oz jumbo pasta shells
Filling
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 ½ cups ricotta cheese
- 1 egg (for binding)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Sauce and Topping
- Tomato sauce, enough to layer and cover shells
- Additional grated Parmesan cheese for sprinkling
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven and Prepare Shells: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook the jumbo pasta shells according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain carefully and set aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ricotta cheese, egg, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Assemble the Shells: Using a spoon, fill each cooked pasta shell generously with the beef and cheese filling mixture, being careful not to overstuff to avoid breakage.
- Make the Tomato Sauce Layer: Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange the stuffed shells evenly on top of this sauce layer.
- Top and Bake: Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the arranged stuffed shells ensuring each shell is partially covered. Sprinkle additional Parmesan cheese over the top for a cheesy crust.
- Bake Until Golden and Bubbling: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the shells have a golden-brown hue.
- Serve and Garnish: Once baked, remove from the oven and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve warm for a hearty and satisfying meal.
Notes
- Make sure to not overcook the pasta shells to prevent them from breaking during stuffing.
- For added moisture in the filling, you can mix in a tablespoon of tomato sauce.
- Prepare the filling while the pasta is cooking to save time.
- Allow the dish to cool completely before storing. Refrigerate up to 4 days or freeze up to 2 months.
- Reheat leftovers in the microwave or oven, adding a splash of water to tomato sauce if needed.
- Pair this dish with a fresh green salad, garlic bread, and a refreshing iced tea or lemonade for a complete meal.
