Ingredients
Scale
Apple Mixture
- 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup caramel sauce (plus more for drizzling)
Crisp Topping
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9-inch square baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Toss Apples: In a large bowl, combine the peeled and sliced apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and caramel sauce. Toss until the apples are evenly coated with the mixture.
- Arrange Apples: Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish to form the base of the crisp.
- Make Crisp Topping: In a separate bowl, stir together flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to incorporate the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Assemble Crisp: Evenly sprinkle the oat topping over the apple layer, covering it completely.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 40–45 minutes or until the topping turns golden brown and apples are bubbling underneath.
- Cool and Serve: Let the crisp cool for 10–15 minutes before serving. Drizzle with additional caramel sauce for extra sweetness just before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
- You can use store-bought or homemade caramel sauce depending on your preference.
- For a variation, substitute pears for the apples or add a handful of chopped pecans to the topping for added crunch and flavor.
