Description

This wholesome Chicken & Rice recipe for dogs combines wholesome brown rice, lean chicken breast, and nutritious green beans to provide a balanced, tasty meal that supports your dog’s health and digestion. Prepared with simple, dog-safe ingredients, it’s an easy-to-make homemade meal to supplement your pup’s regular kibble, offering both nourishment and flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups whole grain brown rice
  • 5 oz boneless chicken breast (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup green beans (optional, fresh or frozen)

Instructions

  1. Boil Water: Bring 4 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat to prepare for cooking the rice and chicken.
  2. Add Rice and Arrange Chicken & Veggies: Stir in 2 cups of whole grain brown rice. Place the boneless chicken breast and green beans on top of the rice without stirring.
  3. Simmer Covered: Cover the pot and let everything simmer on low heat for 40-50 minutes, or until the rice has absorbed all the water and steam holes appear. Adjust time based on rice type and package instructions.
  4. Chop Chicken and Vegetables: Remove the cooked chicken and green beans and use kitchen or poultry shears to cut them into small, dog-friendly pieces. Stir them back into the rice.
  5. Cool Properly: Transfer the mixture to a container, create a hole in the center for ventilation, and refrigerate uncovered for 4 hours to cool safely before covering.
  6. Serve: Mix two tablespoons of the chicken & rice blend per cup of your dog’s kibble at meal times. Optionally add a little warm water to moisten. Stir and serve for a nutritious meal your dog will love!

Notes

  • Use brown rice for a more nutritious option—cooking time is about 50 minutes. If using white rice, cooking time will be shorter (about 20 minutes).
  • Always use boneless chicken breast; never feed your dog cooked chicken bones as they can be harmful.
  • Green beans are optional; other dog-safe vegetables can be substituted but avoid toxic ones like onions, garlic, and grapes.
  • Cool the food uncovered initially to prevent bacterial growth before covering and refrigerating.
  • Store the prepared food in the refrigerator and use within seven days for freshness and safety.
