Description

Delight in these festive Christmas Nutella Puff Pastries, featuring flaky, golden puff pastry filled with rich chocolate-hazelnut spread. Perfect for holiday gatherings, these easy-to-make treats combine buttery layers with creamy Nutella, topped with a glossy egg wash and festive decorations for a stunning seasonal dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry & Filling

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • ½ cup Nutella (or any chocolate-hazelnut spread)

For Topping

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Optional: crushed hazelnuts, festive sprinkles, or cinnamon sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into 12 rectangles or your choice of holiday shapes like stars or trees for festive flair.
  3. Add Nutella Filling: On half of the pastry pieces, spoon 1 to 2 teaspoons of Nutella each. Spread it slightly, being careful to leave clear edges so the pastries can be sealed properly.
  4. Seal the Pastries: Place the remaining pastry pieces on top of the Nutella-topped ones. Press the edges firmly with a fork to seal the pastries and prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
  5. Apply Egg Wash: Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the pastries to give them a beautiful golden color and shiny finish once baked.
  6. Bake: Bake the pastries in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until they are puffed up and golden brown.
  7. Cool and Decorate: Allow the pastries to cool slightly. Then dust them with powdered sugar or decorate with optional crushed hazelnuts, festive sprinkles, or cinnamon sugar to add texture and holiday cheer.

Notes

  • Ensure puff pastry is thoroughly thawed before rolling for best results.
  • Do not overfill with Nutella to avoid leakage during baking.
  • Customize with different festive shapes using cookie cutters.
  • For a nuttier texture, sprinkle crushed hazelnuts on top after egg wash and before baking.
  • Best served warm for gooey Nutella centers, but also delicious at room temperature.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat briefly to restore flakiness.
