Description

These Delicious Mushrooms Stuffed with Crab Meat are a flavorful and elegant appetizer perfect for gatherings or a special meal. Tender mushroom caps are filled with a creamy mixture of lump crab meat, cream cheese, Parmesan, and seasoned with garlic, Dijon mustard, and parsley, then baked to golden perfection with a crunchy breadcrumb topping.

Ingredients

Scale

Mushrooms

  • 12 large white or cremini mushrooms (stems removed and caps cleaned)

Crab Meat Stuffing

  • 1 cup lump crab meat (fresh or canned, drained)
  • 2 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp Old Bay seasoning (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs (preferably panko for crunch)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Prepare the Mushrooms: Gently remove the stems from the mushroom caps. Finely chop the stems to add flavor to the stuffing. Wipe the mushroom caps clean using a damp cloth to remove any dirt without soaking them.
  3. Make the Crab Meat Stuffing: In a large mixing bowl, combine lump crab meat, chopped mushroom stems, softened cream cheese, grated Parmesan, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, chopped parsley, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning if using, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix gently to keep the crab meat somewhat chunky.
  4. Stuff the Mushrooms: Spoon the crab mixture generously into each mushroom cap, pressing the filling in slightly to secure it. Then sprinkle breadcrumbs on top to add a crispy texture after baking.
  5. Bake the Mushrooms: Arrange the stuffed mushrooms on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle the tops with olive oil to help them brown and crisp. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, until the mushrooms are tender and the stuffing is golden and bubbling.
  6. Serve: Remove from the oven and garnish with additional fresh parsley for a burst of color and freshness. Serve warm as a delicious appetizer or as part of a meal.

Notes

  • You can substitute cremini mushrooms with white button mushrooms if preferred.
  • Ensure crab meat is well drained to avoid watery stuffing.
  • Optional Old Bay seasoning can be omitted or replaced with your favorite seafood seasoning.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute panko breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed nuts.
  • These stuffed mushrooms can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving.
