Description

This Easy & Hearty Cabbage and Ground Beef Skillet is a flavorful one-pan dinner perfect for busy weeknights. Combining savory ground beef with tender cabbage, tomatoes, and smoky spices, it’s a comforting and nutritious meal that comes together quickly on the stovetop.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 head green cabbage, chopped (about 5 cups)
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes with juices
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water

For Garnish

  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5–7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  3. Cook the Cabbage: Stir in the chopped cabbage and cook for 5–6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage begins to wilt.
  4. Add Tomatoes and Seasonings: Add the diced tomatoes with juices, tomato sauce, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Pour in the beef broth or water and stir everything to combine.
  5. Simmer the Dish: Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let simmer for 10–15 minutes until the cabbage is tender and the flavors meld together.
  6. Adjust Seasonings and Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving if desired.

Notes

  • This dish is excellent for meal prep and reheats very well.
  • For a lighter version, substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
  • Serve with rice, crusty bread, or enjoy on its own for a low-carb meal option.
