Description

This Easy Salisbury Steak Recipe features juicy ground beef patties seasoned with classic spices and topped with rich brown gravy. Perfectly cooked in a skillet and served with comforting mashed potatoes, this dish offers a hearty and satisfying meal ready in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Patties

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/3 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

For the Gravy

  • 2 packets Brown Gravy Mix (approximately 1oz each)
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 1 teaspoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, 2 teaspoons ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Use clean hands to mix everything thoroughly. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and flatten each portion to form patties.
  2. Cook Patties: Heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and fully cooked through. Adjust heat as needed to avoid burning. Once cooked, remove patties from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make Gravy: In a medium bowl, whisk together the brown gravy mix, 2 cups hot water, 1 teaspoon ketchup, and 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce until smooth and well combined.
  4. Combine and Simmer: Pour the prepared gravy mixture into the skillet with any remaining juices. Bring to a simmer over low heat. Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over each, and stir gently to coat. Let simmer for 3-5 minutes until the gravy thickens slightly. If the gravy becomes too thick, add an additional 1/4 cup hot water and stir to loosen.
  5. Serve: Serve the Salisbury steaks hot with plenty of gravy spooned over each patty. They pair wonderfully with mashed potatoes or your favorite side dishes.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use beef broth instead of water when preparing the gravy.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To make this gluten free, substitute gluten free bread crumbs and gravy mix.
  • Make sure not to overmix the patty ingredients to keep the steaks tender.
  • Use a meat thermometer to check that patties reach an internal temperature of 160°F for safe consumption.
