Description

This Easy Sausage Dip is a creamy, cheesy appetizer perfect for any gathering. Made with savory sausage, cream cheese, and a blend of cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, it’s quickly cooked on the stovetop and served warm with your favorite chips or veggies. The optional taco seasoning adds a flavorful kick, making it versatile for varied tastes. Ready in under 15 minutes, it’s a crowd-pleasing dip that’s simple to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage Mixture

  • 1 lb (16 oz) sausage (breakfast sausage or Italian sausage, whichever you prefer)

Dairy & Cheese

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Seasonings

  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning or 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional for added flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Garnish & Serving

  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)
  • Tortilla chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage, breaking it apart as it cooks. Stir occasionally and cook until the sausage is fully browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Make the Dip Base: Reduce the heat to low and add the softened cream cheese to the skillet with the cooked sausage. Stir continuously until the cream cheese is fully melted and thoroughly combined with the sausage.
  3. Add the Other Ingredients: Add the sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, taco seasoning or paprika if using, garlic powder, black pepper, and onion powder to the skillet. Stir everything together until the cheeses have melted and the dip becomes creamy and well mixed.
  4. Serve: Once the dip is smooth and creamy, remove the skillet from heat. Transfer the sausage dip to a serving bowl, garnish with chopped green onions if desired, and serve warm alongside tortilla chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks.

Notes

  • For a spicier dip, increase the taco seasoning quantity or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • You can substitute cream cheese with Neufchâtel cheese for a slightly lighter dip.
  • Use turkey sausage for a leaner option.
  • This dip can be made ahead and reheated gently on the stovetop or in a microwave.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
