Ingredients
Scale
For the Steak
- 10 oz (280g) ribeye or sirloin steak, cubed
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the Fried Rice
- 3 cups cooked rice, chilled
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon oyster sauce
- 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, toss the steak cubes with soy sauce, olive oil, and black pepper. Let it marinate for 15 minutes to enhance flavor.
- Sear the Steak: Heat a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated steak cubes and sear them for 2–3 minutes until browned but still tender. Remove and set aside to keep warm.
- Sauté Garlic in Butter: In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium, add butter, and stir in minced garlic. Cook until fragrant, about 1 minute, to infuse the butter with garlic aroma.
- Fry the Rice: Increase heat to high, add the chilled rice, and toss with the garlic butter. Spread the rice evenly in the skillet to allow it to crisp slightly, creating a nice texture.
- Add Sauces: Pour in soy sauce, sesame oil, and oyster sauce. Mix well until the rice is evenly coated and heated through, ensuring a balanced savory flavor.
- Combine Steak and Green Onions: Return the cooked steak to the skillet, toss with the rice mixture, and stir in chopped green onions. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
- Serve and Enjoy: Transfer to a bowl and enjoy your savory, garlic butter steak fried rice, perfect for a quick and filling meal.
Notes
- Use day-old chilled rice for best texture and to prevent clumping.
- Ribeye or sirloin steak works best due to tenderness and flavor.
- Adjust the amount of soy sauce and oyster sauce according to taste and salt preference.
- For extra heat, consider adding chili flakes or sliced fresh chili during step 4.
- You can substitute butter with a neutral oil if preferred but butter gives a richer flavor.
- Ensure the skillet is hot enough when searing steak to get a good browning.
