Ingredients
Scale
For the Hash Brown Crust
- 3 cups frozen shredded hash browns, thawed and patted dry
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the Filling
- 6 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Crust: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a mixing bowl, combine thawed and dried hash browns with melted butter, salt, and black pepper. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a greased 9-inch pie dish to form the crust.
- Bake the Crust: Bake the hash brown crust in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes or until it turns golden and begins to crisp. Once done, remove the crust from the oven and reduce the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the Filling: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and whole milk until the mixture is smooth and homogenous. Stir in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese, crumbled cooked bacon, and chopped green onions.
- Assemble Quiche: Pour the egg and cheese mixture evenly into the baked hash brown crust, smoothing the top gently with a spatula.
- Bake the Quiche: Place the quiche back into the oven and bake at 375°F for 30–35 minutes, or until the center is fully set and the top has a light golden color.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the quiche from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This resting period helps the filling to set perfectly.
Notes
- You can substitute turkey bacon or omit bacon entirely for a vegetarian version.
- Ensure the hash browns are thoroughly dried before forming the crust to avoid sogginess.
- For a crispier crust, press the hash browns firmly and bake thoroughly before adding the filling.
- This recipe is naturally gluten-free when using gluten-free butter and bacon.
