Description
Pomegranate molasses is a thick, tangy syrup made by reducing pomegranate juice with sugar and lemon juice. This versatile condiment adds a unique sweet and tart flavor to a variety of dishes, including salads, marinades, and Middle Eastern recipes.
Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 3 cups pomegranate juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan or dutch oven over medium heat, combine the pomegranate juice, granulated sugar, and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Stir continuously until the sugar has fully dissolved into the juice mixture.
- Simmer the Mixture: Bring the mixture to a low simmer. Maintain a gentle simmer for 50 to 55 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid has reduced significantly and thickened to a syrupy consistency.
- Cool and Store: Remove the pan from heat and allow the molasses to cool for at least 10 minutes in the pan. Then transfer the thickened syrup into a clean glass jar. Seal tightly and store in the refrigerator where it will keep for up to 6 months.
Notes
- Use 100% pomegranate juice for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
- The consistency should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon; it will thicken further when cooled.
- Store in a sterilized glass jar to maximize shelf life.
- Pomegranate molasses enhances the flavor of dressings, dips, roasted meats, and vegetable dishes.
- Adjust the sugar amount based on the sweetness of your pomegranate juice and personal preference.
