Description

This Savory Garlic Mushroom Spinach Homemade Pizza features a perfectly chewy crust topped with a flavorful blend of sautéed garlic, mushrooms, and fresh spinach, finished with gooey melted mozzarella cheese. It’s an easy-to-make, delicious vegetarian pizza ideal for a satisfying meal for family or friends.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 cup Warm Water (around 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt

For the Topping

  • 1.5 cups Sliced Mushrooms (cremini or button mushrooms preferred)
  • 2 cups Fresh Spinach
  • 4 cloves Minced Garlic
  • 1.5 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 cup Pizza Sauce
  • Additional 1 tablespoon Olive Oil for sautéing
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and active dry yeast. Stir gently and allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Make Dough: Add olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture and stir well. Gradually add all-purpose flour, mixing until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Sauté Garlic and Vegetables: While the dough rises, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil and minced garlic, sautéing for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Cook Mushrooms and Spinach: Add sliced mushrooms to the skillet, cooking 5-7 minutes until browned and tender. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Add fresh spinach and cook until wilted, then remove from heat.
  7. Prepare Dough for Baking: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into your desired shape, approximately ¼ inch thick.
  8. Preheat Oven and Add Sauce: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Spread pizza sauce evenly over the rolled dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
  9. Add Toppings: Evenly distribute the sautéed garlic, mushroom, and spinach mixture over the sauce. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the top.
  10. Bake: Place the pizza in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned.
  11. Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice into pieces and serve hot.

Notes

  • Ensure the water used to activate yeast is warm but not hot, ideally around 110°F, to effectively activate the yeast without killing it.
  • You can substitute spinach with kale or arugula if preferred.
  • Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick to the topping.
  • For a gluten-free version, use a certified gluten-free flour blend suitable for pizza dough.
  • If fresh mushrooms are unavailable, canned mushrooms can be used but be sure to drain them well.
  • Allowing the pizza to cool slightly before slicing helps the cheese set and keeps toppings from sliding off.
