Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Marinade
- 1 lb chicken breast, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 tablespoons yogurt
- 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ teaspoon ground pepper
Coating
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- Oil for deep frying (quantity as needed)
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken: Cut the chicken breast into 1-inch pieces. In a bowl, combine the chicken with yogurt, minced garlic, garam masala, chili powder, turmeric powder, salt, and ground pepper. Mix well to ensure all pieces are evenly coated. Allow the chicken to marinate for 10 to 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Prepare the coating: In a shallow dish, mix the all-purpose flour with salt. Prepare another bowl with the beaten egg, and a separate plate with the bread crumbs ready for coating.
- Coat the chicken pieces: Dip each marinated chicken piece first into the flour mixture, ensuring an even coat. Then dip it into the beaten egg, and finally coat it thoroughly with bread crumbs. Place the coated nuggets onto a plate and refrigerate them for 10 minutes to help the coating set.
- Deep fry the nuggets: Heat enough oil in a deep frying pan or skillet to submerge the chicken pieces. Once the oil is hot (around 350°F or 175°C), carefully add the coated chicken nuggets in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until they turn golden brown and are cooked through, approximately 5 to 7 minutes per batch. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve: Serve the hot spiced Indian chicken nuggets with your favorite dipping sauces such as mint chutney, tamarind sauce, or ketchup for a delicious snack or appetizer.
Notes
- Ensure the oil is adequately heated before frying to achieve a crispy coating without excessive oil absorption.
- You can adjust the chili powder quantity to control the spiciness level according to your taste.
- For a healthier version, consider baking instead of deep frying, but the texture will be less crispy.
- Leftover nuggets can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in an oven or air fryer.
